Hobbies that can make you smarter

Hobbies that can make you smarter

We all have one friend in our group who is smart, well-informed, and creative. We all turn to them for advice and information. How does he have an opinion on all the topics discussed in the group and how much capacity does he have? Even if he/she is naturally talented and gifted, that doesn't mean one can't improve one's IQ and attain mental well-being.

We all need interesting habits in our lives because, as Shakespeare once said ''What is a man If his chief good and market of his time Be but to sleep and feed? A beast, no more". This means men who live to do nothing more than eat and sleep are no better than animals. It is not my intention to offend anyone, but rather to persuade them to have productive hobbies and to stress the importance of having them to succeed in life. You do not need to be an earth-shattering hobby, but just enough to make you above a beast, to keep your mind occupied and make you stand out in the crowd.

So following are a few hobbies that can help make you smarter-

1. Reading

We are all aware of the benefits of reading. A good reader is attentive, observant, and motivated. It not only enhances your general knowledge of the world but also improves your language by adding new words to your chest of vocabulary. Reading keeps you informed, increases your concentration, and also helps you to manage your stress and fight boredom.Books are good company and they undoubtedly make you a smarter and more rational human being.

Does reading makes you smarter?

2. Playing Video Games

Researchers have found that video games increase your competence and mental ability to find solutions. It also helps you with managing physiological problems like tension and stress in daily life. How fun is it that you can play for entertainment and increase your cognitive abilities?

But don’t spend your whole time on it as it can also strain your eyes and it can also get addictive. There are many other games, like chess, Sudoku, crossword puzzles, or solving trivia that can increase your IQ as well.

What are the benefits of playing video games?

3. News

You can find out what’s happening across the globe by watching the news or reading a newspaper. It is a habit highly recommended by everyone, so that ignorance can be erased. You can be aware of geo-political news and form your own perspectives on certain things while also keeping in mind the manipulative media accounts that may sway you to their cause.

Also, being a responsible citizen of your country, you should know whether your taxes are resourced well by the government. Only if you are aware of it can you question those sitting in power. Awareness brings revolution.

How to be more aware of your surrounding?

4. Curious mind equals a healthy mind

‘’Curiosity is a mind in search of knowledge’’. When you wonder and question things, you seek to expand your knowledge of those things. Doubts and questions don’t make you stupid. in fact, a curious mind is a healthy mind. Curiosity has brought mankind to such advances. Suppose Newton had a lazy mind, then he would have eaten the apple rather than wondering how it fell. We would not have come up with the gravitational theory.

Is curiosity a sign of genius mind?

Therefore, it’s good to be curious and ask questions about whether you are in class or at work. Don’t let the spark of your curiosity die because you fear that people will laugh at your expense. How else would you learn?

5. Exercise and mediation

Time and again the importance of exercise, yoga, and meditation has been recorded and proven. It relaxes you and manages stress problems to make you more attentive. Breathing exercises and meditation freshen your mind. It also affects your memory power.

6. Drawing and Painting

‘’Imagination is more important than knowledge’’. Your imagination knows no boundaries, so when you sit down to draw or paint you let your imagination run wild. It prompts you to develop the left hemisphere of your brain, which is responsible for creativity.

Does painting helps to improve IQ?

Other hobbies include-

Dumping ideas on a paper is also good exercise for your brain and so is solving mathematical and reasoning questions. Keeping your mind sharp is also possible through activities such as teaching skills, learning a new language, and so on.

In conclusion

A smart person is not someone who is just intelligent in a bookish sense, who can retain all bookish knowledge, but it includes other parameters like how well they perform during times of hardships, how much they are willing to learn and the fact they are not afraid to make mistakes. They listen more and talk less, as once said "give every man thy ear, but few thy voice". They mind their own business, and don’t take impulsive decisions. Therefore, be always open towards constructive criticism, since knowledge is power, no age should limit you from enhancing your knowledge.
