Have you wondered what dreams are made of? Do they relate to your real-life conditions? Or are they just random projections of what you see every day? It has been a matter of debate whether or not dreams hold meaning. Some researchers believe that they do not have meaning and are shown randomly while you sleep. But others emphasize that some dreams are purposefully projected by your subconscious mind to tell you something.
Sigmund Freud, a renowned Austrian neurologist, and philosopher espoused that dreams are indeed meaningful. In his book “The Interpretation of Dreams’’, he says that interpreting dreams can help you understand your subconscious mind. It is some unfulfilled wish or emotion that wants to come out. Therefore, your mind predicts and shows it to you in dreams.
When you sleep you get all these images, and visions and feel emotions called dreams or nightmares depending on their nature. Usually, we forget most of our dreams as soon as we wake up. But we remember some dreams in fragments. Some erotic dreams or some sunshine-happy dreams or ghost haunting or dreams reflecting your past trauma in nightmares.
1. The infamous falling from a height dream
It’s quite common to dream of falling from a height and jolting awake. We have all had it and it’s quite an unnerving feeling to have a free fall even if it’s in a dream. It’s believed that it usually points out that something in your life is falling apart. You do not have a grip on situations and things you have worked on are crumbling apart. If you felt that someone deliberately pushed you from the cliff, it means you are feeling the taste of betrayal.
2. Naked in public
When you dream that you are naked somewhere in your dream, it may mean that you are feeling self-conscious. You have a hard time loving yourself or your body. You feel insecure and ashamed of how you look without clothes. So, through this dream, your brain is telling you about your vulnerability and your need to work on self-confidence.
3. Committing or Witnessing a murder
If you ever dream of committing a murder, it means you have some pent-up anger and hatred that needs release. If you are killing someone in your dream, it means your hatred is directed toward them and you need to sort out things and show forgiveness. This interpretation is an interesting take on the human psyche. If you witness a murder you are aware of just how wrong it is and still do not gather the courage to call someone out for their wrongdoings.
4. Failing a test
Most surely, this dream has haunted almost every student. For a fact, you cannot read in your dreams but you can see a text. A failed test means that you are stressed about your upcoming exams, which is an obvious interpretation, but this dream also means you fear failure, so you will work harder than before. It means you are not happy with the results of your hard work and believe you deserve more.
5. attacked by animals and fighting animals
It usually means you are hiding away from your problems or you are having a hard time with confrontation. You are not leaving feelings of fear, anxiety, or anger free. It could also be an expression of erotic sensitivity hiding hunger or thirst.
Fighting with wild animals shows your primal instincts to overcome some hard situations in life. Your emotions are suppressed and you are facing an existential crisis in life. It means you have to toughen up and face whatever hardships life has to present you.
In conclusion
Back to our first question, do dreams always hold meaning in your life?
There isn't always a meaning to every dream, they aren't always serious. There is no need to worry about being depressed or anything like that. It maybe happens that you are overthinking and analyzing things that remain imprinted on your subconscious mind.
What I think is that you mostly dream of things you think about before going to bed. Anyways, it’s always fun to know the meaning behind dreams, but it’s not fun to accord meaning to each of your dreams as it can make you more reactive to everything you feel and see. Whether or not you choose to believe in the interpretation of dreams, it does not hurt to keep an open mind about them. I hope you had fun reading.
